It is my belief that every student deserves an opportunity to learn in a positive classroom environment. No student should be allowed to keep another student from learning and no student should be allowed to keep the teacher from teaching. I have six rules to keep our class happy and safe. These rules are posted in the classroom for the students to see.
Please read over the rules and discuss them with your child.
Rules
1. Pay attention and follow directions.
2. Ask permission to talk or leave your seat during
instructional and quiet times.
3. Keep hands feet, and objects to yourself.
4. Behave quietly and courteously at all times.
(classroom, hallway, restroom, library, lunchroom,
etc...)
5. Bring needed materials to class. (This includes the
O.k. Binder.)
6. Finish work on time.
I use a behavior management system which uses colored frogs. There are five different sections drawn on my refrigerator in the classroom. Each section has one of five different colored frogs. Your child will begin each day with his/her name in the section with the green frog. Your child's name will be moved to the next colored frog each time a rule is broken. The frog colors and consequences are listed below.
1. Green Frog - appropriate behavior
2. Yellow Frog - 1st offense - warning
3. Orange Frog - 2nd offense - privilege taken away
4. Blue Frog - 3rd offense - privilege taken way
5. Red Frog - 4th offense - note or phone call to parents
Privileges that may be taken from your child include playtime, talking at lunch, center time, snack, library, assembly, etc...
Should a child's name be placed in the "red frog" section for a second time in one week, the consequence will be changed from a "note or phone call to the parents" to "a trip to the office".
Severe disruptions will result in an immediate trip to the office regardless of frog color.
Children who remain in the "green frog" section all week will receive a treat from the "Treasure Box" on Friday. I will also reward students who are following the rules with surprises such as stickers, free time, extra computer time, sitting at the teacher's desk, positive notes home, etc....
Your child will have a behavior sheet in the O.K. Binder. This sheet has a frog for each day of the grading period. Before dismissing each day, your child will color a frog to show the final placement of his/her name on that day. This sheet will remain in the proper section of the O.K. Binder until the end of the grading period.
We are required to give a numerical grade for conduct on the report cards. Your child will begin each grading period with 100 points. Your child will have 1 point deducted for every orange frog received, 2 points deducted for every blue frog received, and 3 points deducted for every red frog received.
If you have any questions about this plan, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you,
Mrs. Murray
